A young Swiss couple get married. Stefan, the handsome young groom, is hesitant to tell his "mother" that he's gotten married, much to the chagrin of Valerie, his beautiful bride.
They stay at a hotel after missing their boat. They learn of a series of grisly murders taking place lately, where the young women murdered were drained of blood. Also, they meet Countess Bathory, the eerie yet charming namesake of the woman that murdered over 300 handmaidens so many years ago. Tagging along is her assistant, Ilona.
The couple get caught in a whirlwind of madness and staring contests. Soon, people are dying left and right, and the Countess is slowing taking over their lives. What will they do?

Well I guess I can see why Fox hates it so. However, I don't. Yeah this movie is a damn tease and on that same 'damn' note, damnit if it's not long winded as all hell.
Points are also to be lost for mention of the infamous "Bathory" name and not delivering rightfully so. For shame! Some shameless coverups get the flag, too. (How many women do you know that walk around with a towel covering their only their waist after a shower?!) To be a vampiric film and to have no real blood or "naked-witch and blood-acts" dings you, too.
However, aside from that, I did enjoy the atmosphere and "quietness" of all that was going on. You could tell the cast was able to get some good chemistry going on. I'm also (as many already have seen me state) a sucker for good cameraplay and visuals. I thought Delphine Seyrig was great but her part was too damn long! Geez! Would she ever just shut the fuck up?! You could ask her to pass the Parkay and it would take her 45 minutes to do so because she bantered off about something else! Well, at least Andrea Rau was not bad on the eyes, so I could greatly apprciate "Chapter selection" on my DVD player. After all is said and done, I was able to respect the approach Harry Kümel was trying to take. Too bad for him he fell way short.
The points for this one are given for Ms. Lau and that sweet-ass *you have to see it to believe it* ending that will somewhat makeup for the "sleep medication" that is this movie. Rental only. And even then, be prepared to be pushing the "fast forward" or "next chapter buttons".

Well I guess I can see why Fox hates it so. However, I don't. Yeah this movie is a damn tease and o ...
What is so hard about this? What is so hard about making a story surrounding the mythos of Countess Bathory? Every movie we've seen has completely destroyed the story, and all they have to do is stick to real facts! Blood showers? Hundreds of bloody, gory deaths? Brutal savagery of innocent virgins for one woman to maintain her youth? Throwing poor, shivering women naked into the snow to slowly freeze to death after she had drained their blood? What the fuck is so hard about this???
No, instead we get movies like this. Let's take the Bathory story and make it completely pointless. Let's try and reconfigure everybody into some ridiculous love triangle nonsense that wastes the character of Bathory completely. Why is she in this? They could've used anybody else. It still would have been a horrible movie, but it wouldn't have sullied Bathory's name in the process.
The acting is awful, the story is useless, everything about this irritates me. If you are going to make a soap-opera drama, at least have people that can act and a winding story that keeps the viewer interested. The only person that holds her own is Delphine Seyrig as Bathroy, but, again, the role is neutered from what it really should be, so it doesn't really matter. Plus, it has a stupid twist ending that pissed me off even more than I already was.
Again, I ask: what the hell is so hard about this story???
