Sorry, I'm not buying it. Lost classic my ass.
Yeah, ok, this flick had some good gore effects, and some nice puppetry. And I realize how old it is. But even from 1988, this was dull and pointless.
Everything in the movie had been done before. By this time to have a movie just be a zombie outbreak premise and nothing else was just a waste of damn time. The crazy doctor angle was from Day of the Dead. The serum was from Re-Animator. Just a bunch of nonsense.
What really doesn't help is the fact that they stuck people's names in randomly, like Romero, Carpenter, King, Savini, etc, etc. Even Reverend Jim Jones gets a shout-out for some reason. So now it's an "homage" film? Maybe a self-referential parody? No. It was just for recognition. Speaking of Savini, apparently he "ghost produced" this. I can't imagine for the life of me why he wouldn't want his name on it.
The only thing that really stuck out to me was the zombie head swallowing the guy's fingers and them coming out through his neck...that was a nice touch. But again that just goes back to the only thing they had, one or two nice gore effects. The rest is a total yawn.

I thoroughly enjoyed this flick. Even with the dull moments where it was easy to turn away and partake in moving cars around in Parking Wars on Facebook, this movie shined through with the gore effects, bad acting, and stereotyped characters that we have grown to know and love on this site.
Are there too many references to other horror movies to try and give the movie credibility? Yes. Are there some dull moments? Yes. Is the acting sub-par? Yes. In spite of the prior mentions, this movie has some great zombies, awesome gore effects, and a voice synthesized zombie!
I'd recommend this one for the whole family. Beyond the gore, you and your kids will get a kick out of the outlandish acting and plot.
