A young man named Ian Stone stops to help what he thinks is a person laying in the road one rainy evening. The creature arises and flings him in front of a train. Waking up, he finds himself in a bind when he realizes that wasn't the first time he has died. To stop the cycle he will have to confront some mysterious pursuers as well as himself.

I seriously need to stop giving myself expectations. This is my #1 pick for this year's After Dark Horrorfest and it has easily been the dumbest movie of the fest.
With a premise like the one it has, a guy dying every day and waking up in random places, the movie could have absolutely gone anywhere. Where does it go? Somewhere that has no real bearing on the plot at all. The first half is almost entirely pointless.
Never mind that the story is derivative of quite a few movies - Jacob's Ladder, Dark City, Groundhog's Day, even an indie film entitled Salvage that came out last year - I was able to look past all that, anxiously awaiting what crazy idea the movie was going to present about time and space that allowed this poor dude to be viciously slaughtered every day. What I ended up getting was a brain-dead, illogical, dipshit pseudo-monster movie that warned me of the dangers of drug use.
The only thing I can really recommend was the acting, at least by the lead Mike Vogel. Ian goes through quite a few changes during the course of the movie and Mike had to adapt his character and delivery to every situation, and does so fairly well. Other than that, there isn't much to suggest, though I suppose you could use it in a fine example of how to disappoint everyone in the world. Seriously, we were sitting in the theater coming up with ideas on where the movie could go and every one of them was much more interesting than what ended up being shat all over the screen.
You know what? I was going to recommend renting it to catch the first half but forget that. Fuck this movie in its goddamn ear. What a bait and switch!
On another note, why the hell did they end up in the Matrix later on? What was that about? Watching Jaime Murray walk around in tight latex was fine and all, but seriously, what?
