Dear Mr. Zombie,
Again I must thank you for your sincere attempt at continuing your re-imagining of the Halloween franchise.
Unfortunately I must also once again express my disappoint over the final product. I do see where you were coming from. The studio screwed with the ending to the last film and stupidly added the pointless chase scene, so you wanted to make sure your 'vision' of the franchise was finally complete. It's very apparent to me that both films are meant to be seen as one complete story, as the second movie obviously doesn't stand by itself in any way, and that Halloween 2 was to give us an idea of what's going through Myers' mind.
I appreciated the fact you paid homage to the original Halloween 2 by starting the movie exactly (well, sort of) where the first one left off. I also appreciated the reference to Halloween 4.
But come on. What the fuck happened here?
Maybe it's just me, but I just don't get it. You're a huge horror buff. How did it come to pass that you made two travesties about one of the biggest horror icons that exists? The family back story in the first film I lived with, though it was cliche. But now he turns into Jason Voorhees with his Mommy issues?
Plus apparently the human bulldozer that was Michael in the last movie can now teleport. Awesome. This guy is all over town instantly. If you're going for a more "crazed redneck" type of killer, not "The Shape" from the original series, why does he get to teleport? No consistency.
Speaking of rip-offs, was there really a reason to steal the van scene from Prom Night? It was the same set-up, note for note. Not to mention the people killed are completely useless. In fact, so is everyone else. I didn't give a shit about anybody in the movie. If you were going for mass kills, why does he kill everyone basically the same way? Dull.
I also don't understand how you make such a great film like Devil's Rejects with its moral relativism but somehow make two films that don't say a thing about anything...except maybe "don't have a bad family." All the tropes that exist and you couldn't find anything?
There is one thing that was present that was missing in the first film - your mean streak. The kills in H2 were definitely more vicious and nasty, and more akin to something in your other movies. Particularly the kills in the first part of the movie, though of course that isn't real anyway is it? Half the damn film is a stupid dream sequence when it isn't Malcolm McDowell walking around with his book.
A decent beginning with a steady slide downhill. I beg you, Mr. Zombie, please give up on this ruined franchise. Work on Tyrannosaurus Rex and let someone else do the inevitable H3.
Unless, of course, they decide to actually remake "Season of the Witch." Grab on to that and don't let go.
Sincerely,
Fox
