Veronica and Marta run a nice quaint inn..uh..in Spain. They also serve as judge and jury 'roun these parts. If'n you doin' somethin' they don't take kindlah to: Death Penaltah!
At one point, the two, housed the sister of our main heroine, Laura. She has planned to meet her and spend some qualitah time with her. Problem is, she isn't anywhere to be seen. For that matter, the other female 'outtatowners' end up missing as well.
Guess it's time to break out the Scooby snacks.

I will tip my scale in favor of the defendant this time around. I say so because although the lack of any blood or, anything else for that matter, I was still entertained. There are some definite cuties running around in this one as well and that never hurts.
I imagine there may have been more, though, the copy I watched was 'made for TV' so maybe there is another version. If I find it I'll change my review. Aside from all of that, the two sisters were hilarious and are obivously hardcore as hell. The atmospehere and jive were good as well. The only downside is that it took too damn long for it to end and it is a bit unbelieveable. I'm pretty sure all of their hijinks would have been halted a long time ago. Despite the inconsitencies, on my scale, it's at least worth a rental.

The Captain is definitely right when he says that this version seems incomplete; there were a few instances where I could tell the thing was chopped up like crazy. I really would like to find an uncut version of this, because I was surprised by how much I liked it.
Apparently made during an era when filmmakers were rebelling against the rigid structure of the Catholic church, the film shows what religious fanaticism can do when it goes unchecked. What I found interesting was, since I was raised Catholic, I was able to identify with what the two crazy main women went through. Even though Veronica flounders in her faith, both women are pretty certain that what they are doing is right. They are simply acting out what they've been taught. They think the murders are justified simply because they don't agree with the victims' morals or decisions. In the Catholic church, this is precisely what goes on. Even later in the movie, when they kill a woman for being an unwed mother, they discover she is in fact married, but seeking a divorce. Marta rejustifies her position by saying, "It's not a real marriage then! She wanted a divorce!" That's the way it goes, folks. In most Catholic traditions, you are married once and that's it, no matter the reason. That kind of justification is what drives the movie, and for me I was able to relate to it in ways someone unfamiliar with that type of unbringing may not.
One point I originally thought took away from this idea was when Veronica was revealed to be the product of a broken marriage herself as her husband left with some floozy. However, what I think they were going for was that Veronica was coerced into the killings and crazahness by Marta due to her original feelings about her husband. Now, however, she is realizing that Marta is just nuckin futzah and is deliberately trying to get her and her sister caught.
Another thing that accentuates what the women are trying to justify in their heads is their obvious lust they have towards men in the town. The tight-ass Veronica even dresses in a sexy dress one night and begins rubbing her legs and admiring herself in the mirror. She's torn by her inner feelings and the rigid Catholic "hate the flesh" mentality, which drives her further into crazytown (not the band).
ANYWAY, sorry to ramble. The movie itself is somewhat slow, but for some reason it kept my attention. Not because of the mystery; it's completely obvious from the first ten milliseconds what's going on in the film. Really the interesting thing was watching and waiting to see how the sisters were finally going to screw up and get caught. Also, I did notice some pretty good imagery...at one point the main non-crazy lead whatever her name (seriously, at least three separate women are called "Laura" in this movie...I dunno!) is viewing some art in a museum, which just happens to depict various atrocities committed by church members. Also, in a completely wank-filled pull back shot, we see an eyeball...which turns out to be several lamb heads in a bowl. You can guess what that is supposed to mean I'm sure!
I mentioned the chopping up before...I did notice a few crazy edits that made no sense, but I'm chalking that up to the hatchet job the film obviously went through. Nonetheless, it's a little jarring to have plot points all over the place for no reason, especially when you KNOW there is in fact a point to them. Like, what the hell happened to the baby at the end? Did I miss something or did it just float away? Maybe they ate it?
Also, I couldn't quite get a grasp on the music. At some points it sounds like an old Hammer movie (not M.C.), some parts it picks up tempo like we're in a gay disco, and other times it's pure exploitation smooth jams. Then it cuts out and goes into a crazy organ thing. Just like the editing it is all over the damn place.
Despite the positive experience I can't really recommend a second viewing. You really get the idea the first viewing and nothing is to be gained from repeats.
I give it a high rental. No real reason to buy the thing, but fun for a once through.
