If you had the opportunity to say yes to knowing when you were going to die, or when the world was going to end, would you?
Sadly, Nic Cage said yes.
When John's young son Caleb comes across a piece of paper with numbers, John realizes that it's a map of every catastrophic event over the past fifty years. With only three dates left, John must find out if he can make a difference, and what happens on the final date when the numbers end.
The main flaw in this film, is it's inability to decide what it is. It rides the fence. What's to be certain is that this is a border line horror film on the end of the world. What's not to be certain is why the film would buy into both science and theology. Is it an effort to not hurt anyone's feelings why they fry during a solar flare?
What happens after death? Anything? Nothing? Do angel/aliens save life on a planet? Do they take you to a planet/Eden to restart?
During the pitch meeting, someone must have said "it's "Signs" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still" meets "An Inconvenient Truth" with Nic Cage and massive death." Sounds like a money making block buster huh?
Sadly, there is nothing that can be done. Everything happens. Everyone dies. That's what everyone knows already: we all die. People don't pay for cold reality, they pay to escape it.
If you want a laugh riot, stay clear of this bummer. You got a better chance of having fun reading the book of revelations.
