If you read horror film sites at all I'm sure you've seen all the negative reviews this movie has, and it's for a damn reason. I hate to ape what everyone else is saying, but cripes, why is this on the bill? I'm sure when it's released it will be on the Sci-Fi Channel where it freaking belongs.
I really don't know where to begin. The CGI is just, well, Sci-Fi Channelish. The monster itself is uninspired - merely an "Alien" rip-off that has more teeth, eyes, and...fingers? It even has a goddamn face-hugger! I mean, it doesn't hug your face, but it attaches to your body and looks like an arachnid. Was this on purpose? This couldn't be just an homage. Even one scene mimics a scene from Alien 3! Plus it looks like it's grinning the whole time; you think it'd be more depressed having to be in this crap.
The silly sub-plot with Emmanuelle Vaugier's character and the reasons behind her alcoholism were pretty forced and had nothing to do with the rest of the movie, just a weak attempt at "development" at best. Vaugier does fine, considering, though her acting like a Sherrif was slightly unconvincing.
One or two deaths were ok, but the rest were all implied and off-screen, so there really isn't much gore to the movie. One scene did have me rolling, though; a house explodes about midway into the movie and one character ends up doing a triple half gainer through the air for absolutely no reason, pretty funny stuff. Of course, not on purpose. Speaking of funny, the movie actually reminded me of Feast in some ways, if you subtract the funny and the parody elements. And the gore. And the monster humping.
Not even on a so bad it's good scale could this be considered watchable. I'm seriously at a loss here, why the hell is this on the fest? Someone has to have some Polaroids of somebody else, for reals.
